On this week's Silicon Valley Insider, host Keith Koo continues his series on Ariticial Intelligence and interviews special guest Gary Smith who is the Fletcher Jones Professor of Economics at Pomona College in Claremont, Ca. Gary was also a professor at Yale and has written over 80 academic papers and 13 books and with his most recent being "The AI Delusion".
Keith and Gary talk about why Gary wrote his book and why AI is not yet ready to take over the world. AI is good for very specific tasks but not yet ready for task that involve critical thinking or human judgment. Gary is noted for a term he uses frequently "torturing data" in reference to finding causation in any data set whether valid or not. As a reminder, "correlation is not causation".

For the Cyber-Tip of the week, Keith talks about what to do if you had files lost from the Windows 10 upgrade.
In next week's show, Keith will intereview Jotham Ty who is the Founder and CEO of Gappify a Silcion Valley startup developing accounting "bots". Instead of training entry level accountants, Joatham is training people to develop accounting bots. Tune in next week to about Gappify.

Keith and Beena talk in depth about what AI's potential is for the future and how people can not get left behind by learning the skills necessary to thrive in a technology driven world. Beena discusses how diversity is not just about ethnicity and gender, but also socio economic. That effectively embracing technology can lift up all of the affected groups.

Silicon Valley Host Keith Koo reports from the greater Shanghai region of China in which he was part of an economic trade mission to discuss mutually beneficial business collaborations between the USA & China in spite of the recent tariffs and tensions between the two trading partners.
Keith's economic mission was part of the US Minority Business Agency and the Zion Shanghai Investment Company. Today's show focused on the following guests:
1) Wendy Yang, President of the Zion Shanghai Investment Company which focuses on cross-border business between the USA, China and Europe.
2) Deborah Magid, Director of Strategy - IBM Ventures who discusses the technologies such as IoT, A.I. and Big Data.
3) Aeronyde an innovative Florida based UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) startup that is researching how UAVs can work not only in the USA but in other regions including China.
